Polk County Direct Cremation Price Comparison

When families in Lakeland, Winter Haven, and Davenport lose a loved one, they are often quoted "starting prices" that don't reflect the final bill. At Spangler Cremation Service, we believe in one flat, honest rate of $950.

How We Compare to Other Polk County Providers

We surveyed the General Price Lists (GPL) of local funeral homes to help you see the difference. These prices reflect Direct Cremation services as of early 2026.

The "Hidden Fee" Trap: What to Watch Out For

Many providers in Polk County list a low base price but add "mandatory" costs later. When comparing Spangler Cremation Service to others, ask if their price includes:

  1. The Crematory Fee: Some funeral homes outsource the cremation and charge you an extra $300–$500 as a "third-party fee."
  2. Transportation: Do they charge extra to pick up your loved one from a hospital in Winter Haven vs. a home in Lakeland? (We offer a flat, local service area).
  3. The Container: Florida law requires an "alternative container" for cremation. Some firms charge $150+ for a simple cardboard box that we already include in our price.
  4. County Permits: Medical Examiner fees in Polk County vary. We are always transparent about these pass-through costs.

Why Choose Spangler Cremation Service?

While names like Heath or Ott-Laughlin have been in the county for decades, they often carry high overhead costs, large chapels, fleets of limousines, and corporate staffing, which are passed on to you.

We’ve stripped away the overhead to focus on what matters:

  • Locally Owned: We aren't a national conglomerate; we are your neighbors right here in Lakeland.
  • Simple Online Planning: Arrange everything from your home without a high-pressure sales meeting.
  • Our Price Guarantee: We aim to be the most value-driven provider in the region. If you find a lower price for the same service in Polk County, show us.

Comparison Checklist

Use this list when calling other providers to see if their "low price" is actually the final price:

  • Does the price include the actual crematory fee?
  • Is there an extra charge for a weekend or evening passing?
  • Is the alternative container (the basic cremation box) included?
  • Are there additional charges for filing the death certificate?
